We met Friday, February 1, 1991 at his singles ward dance (sort of like the movie he was in) when I was 18 years old. You guessed it, I'm now 36 (hard to admit) and it's February 1st again so by my calculations I've been priviledged to know him 1/2 a lifetime (so far). As Dell would say, "Not long enough!" And I wouldn't have it any other way.

Dell has been a huge blessing in my life (& the lives of many others, too). He has never stopped "dating" me (ie. movies, dinner out, trips together all over the world), often compliments me, loves the Lord and our family as much as he loves me and shows it in his actions and example, works hard & has always provided for our needs and often our wants, plays hard and keeps me feeling young, is super smart and creative, he's the best dad on the planet to our four kids, etc, etc, etc. No question I'm a better person for the time we've spent together. I love him eternally & plan to be with him forever (thanks to our Savior, Jesus Christ). Let the next 18+ years together begin!! We had trained for a few months for the 39.3 miles we planned to run in the Goofy's Race and a Half Challenge. We ran a half marathon (13.1 miles) on Saturday January 10th and a full marathon (26.2 miles) on Sunday January 11th. We've previously run 1/2 marathons and full marathons individually so we felt the next big challenge was to run them back to back (I know, glutten for punishment). And on top of that, we visited all four parks there, riding the rides as many times as possible (some 4 times each). Needless to say, we put in a lot of miles!! It was probably the most exhausting vacation I've ever been on. And I left the kids and husband at home, LOL! I'm not complaining, though. It was all well worth it and we had a wonderful time. I don't know if we'll ever be goofy enough to run it again (not to mention it was our most expensive race) but it was definitely worth doing once. Reaching such a big goal together and spending the week together was really fantastic. As adults, you don't get to hang out with your siblings much and just play. That's one thing I enjoy the most about running races with my family and friends--all the bonding we get to do together. I sure I couldn't have run as well as I did in any of my races without the support we give to each other during training and actually completing the races, etc. I'd love to run some more races with my family and friends. So who's ready for the next race? (email me)

I just want to say to all my family and friends (especially Dell & my kids) I love you all! Thanks to Dell and the kids for supporting me in my personal quests and for holding down the fort at home while I'm gone. What a great way to accomplish my new year's resolution for 2009! Dell's mom Jeannie and stepdad Michael live there in Tomah. We really enjoyed eating together (Jeannie fed us well), tubing at the local ski resort (small compared to Utah), singing Christmas carols, opening gifts, attending church in the next town (boy are we spoiled with church one street over), and staying up until midnight to ring in the new year (well, 11pm in Utah), etc. I'm sure we were extremely busy and noisy and wore out Jeannie and Michael, but everyone seemed to have a great time!Schanze Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10720714898365154494noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-267856415322000037.post-77513343573399811542008-12-12T15:17:00.002-07:002008-12-12T15:20:14.484-07:00Dell's Sister Heather's Youtube Debut

Schanze Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10720714898365154494noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-267856415322000037.post-7001121407208613082008-12-11T23:48:00.006-07:002008-12-12T00:27:13.101-07:00The Forgotten Carols

I was thrilled when Brooklyn asked if we could see "The Forgotten Carols" (by Michael McLean) as the second play she needed to attend for her 9th grade drama class. I had seen the play a few years ago with Dell, my parents, & my friend Kim. Ever since then I've always wanted to take my kids when they were older and could really grasp the important messages portrayed in this beautiful musical. I purchased the DVD last Christmas (the 15th anniversary addition) and watched it with my family. Out of all my kids, Brooklyn seemed to enjoyed it the most. I even found a book with the sheet music for a bargain and Brooklyn learned to play the "music box" song on the piano. She loves to play it year round. Still, it isn't quite the same as watching it live on stage and really getting into the spirit of this wonderful show. So the two of us treated ourselves to an early birthday present (we both have birthdays this month) and went together (well, I paid, of course).

It was as fantastic as I remembered and Brooklyn and I both shed tears during the performance (it's a medical condition called lacrimocystopexy--our bladder is attached to our eyes, LOL). We stayed after and now have the autographs of the cast, including Michael & Lynne McLean, shown in the pictures with Brooklyn and I. Of course, the best part is the spirit of the Holy Ghost testifying of the truth of their message about the birth of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. From the very beginning of the play and beyond the end, the spirit was so strong. It was so powerful it is hard to describe the joy and peace and love that is felt unless you experience it for yourself. My heart overflows with gratitude for the opportunity to share this special experience with my daughter tonight.

Merry Christmas! I Believe!

Schanze Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10720714898365154494noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-267856415322000037.post-66863803004483627152008-05-24T15:06:00.000-06:002008-05-24T15:07:34.939-06:00May 2008 Update!Dell is still cutting ads for Money Train and his SUPERDELL for Governor campaign, as well as trying to organize the help he's been offered with his campaign, and do radio spots on talk radio, etc. He can probably give you a better idea than I can of all the things he's been doing. So far he seems very positive about the support he's getting. He also loves flying a ton over Utah Lake now that we live so close.

I've been called as the new cub den leader for the 8 year olds. I was supposed to be the assistant, but now the main leader is leaving town for three months and so I'm scrambling to learn what I'm doing without much training. Thankfully, the wife of the scout master has been helping me out some as well as my mom (she helped my 5 brothers and has been a scout leader herself--and so has my dad). I'm in charge of approx. 9 boys (depending on how many show up). :) What an adventure it is all turning out to be. The timing is great since I'll be able to be a better help to Jordan next year when he becomes a scout.

The kids are doing excellent. We went to Lagoon a couple of Saturdays ago as a family and had a great time. Eric and Teresa and their boys joined us as well as some of my family. Troy had his 3-year-old preschool graduation at Miss Tami's (my brother's wife) Thursday. He'll be continuing preschool with my friend Nisha next year (and in June for the summer program) since she lives much closer. Jordan is finishing 1st grade and will attend a summer reading program at his school 5 days a week in June. Savannah is so excited to go to middle school (7th grade) with Brooklyn next year. Savannah went to Lagoon yesterday for a second time this year (and it's only May) as part of her D.A.R.E. graduation. Her friend Stephanie and her family took her with them. And of course, Brooklyn will begin high school credits next year in 9th grade as well as Seminary. She recently bought a skateboard and loves trying to learn how to ride it. I just hope she doesn't injure herself especially since we don't have health insurance until July. She still loves to dye her hair red, partially since it annoys her dad so much, and mostly because she gets more compliments and attention. Our new school district gets out for the summer May 30th, but returns to school Aug. 18th. The kids are excited to get out earlier than some of their friends but don't look forward to returning a week sooner in August. Oh well, you win some and you lose some! :)Schanze Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10720714898365154494noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-267856415322000037.post-2878902947274458662008-02-12T23:00:00.008-07:002008-02-12T23:25:13.137-07:00Deja Vu!

I just took Troy to get some updated photos. She also said he looked just like his dad (who wasn't with us--Dell was in Arizona--she recognized our last name and asked if we were related). By the way, I paid to be able to put his picture on my computer for screen savers, etc. P.S. Happy Birthday Eric! We met at Mom & Dad's between 5 and 6 PM. We ate together, read from the Bible while the kids acted out the story of Christ's birth, sang Christmas carols around the tree, and exchanged gifts. Everyone had a great time, especially Mom & Dad who received new cell phones from Maren & Eric.
Christmas morning, the kids got up around 8 AM. Dell took pictures as the kids rushed for their gifts (and I directed them to the correct piles). Dell loved his digital photo frame. He put pictures on it right away and we all enjoyed looking at pictures of all of us. Brooklyn loved videotaping all of us with her new video camera. She and Savannah also spent the day Instant Messaging each other on their IM-ME's. Savannah also took a lot of pictures of us and her presents on her digital camera. Then she had fun downloading them to her computers. Jordan loved his transformers, especially his Ultimate BumbleBee. He also played his Transformers game on his Nintendo DS Lite. Troy loved his Nintendo DS Lite (a much anticipated item) and played his CARS game and his Little Einsteins game. He also loved his "UnderDog" movie. He kept calling it the UNDERWEAR DOG movie. We tried to correct him, but he insisted it was UNDERWEAR DOG! LOL!

Later, we headed to Dell's Dad's house. We ate with his dad, Bill, and his step mom, Alice Ann, and her children and grandchildren and Dell's brother, Eric, and his wife, Teresa, and their two boys. We exchanged gifts with Dell's family near the end. Alice Ann (as always) gave the most creative and wonderful homemade gifts. She made all of the kids flannel tied blankets and gave all of the married couples pj's with pictures of their spouses on the t-shirt. We all opened them together and laughed and showed each other. Then we put on the shirts and Bill snapped photos of each couple. She also made each family a calender (our third year she's made them) with personalized photos and birthdays and anniversaries. Wow! She always puts SO MUCH WORK into our gifts. Thanks Alice Ann!! :) Of course, all of our gifts were wonderful!

Now we're looking forward to celebrating New Year's Eve with family and anticipating new changes in 2008!
Schanze Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10720714898365154494noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-267856415322000037.post-3054868593099132822007-12-22T00:13:00.002-07:002008-05-24T13:49:09.379-06:00Brooklyn's 14th Birthday

Brooklyn celebrated her 14th birthday by going to the "Alvin and the Chipmunks" movie with her immediate family (& Trevor) and her friends (Melissa, Chantel, & Jessica). Then she had some family come over to our house for pizza, soda, cake and icecream. Aunt Teresa & Uncle Eric came with Alex & Trevor. Uncle Tom & Aunt Tami brought Lily & Jefferson. Uncle Kurtis also made an appearance with his new car (a Toyota Rav 4). He took Brooklyn, Savannah, and Teresa for a drive through the neighborhood. Whee! She especially loved to wear the shirt that mom bought her. It said, "I'm here for the presents". Brooklyn was seen smiling a lot at the party. This was partly due to the fact that she got her braces off the day before. Yeah! She was also seen listening to music often on her new MP3 player. It was a gift from Ashton (a boy she's friends with at school). Overall she seemed to have a wonderful time. Luckily everyone was able to travel safely since we had quite a snowstorm overnight.Schanze Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10720714898365154494noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-267856415322000037.post-32660713304415671512007-12-21T23:52:00.001-07:002007-12-21T23:57:55.227-07:00Jordan the Climber!

Jordan loves to climb, especially in Mom & Dad's bathroom. We traveled all over Florida and spent a day with our niece, Tessa. She moved from Michigan to Florida this past summer. We were so happy that she drove from one side of Florida to the other just to see us (from Rockledge to Sarasota--172 miles one way--and then back again later the same day). Our niece, Brittany, also began working at Disneyworld this past summer (we were unsuccessful at seeing her while we were there, sniff sniff). Here are some pictures taken with Tessa's camera in Florida over the past 6 months (approximately).Schanze Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10720714898365154494noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-267856415322000037.post-23009777075545910692007-11-02T12:43:00.001-06:002007-11-02T21:25:55.260-06:00Hannah Montana & Jonas Brothers Concert

The girls and I attended the Hannah Montana: Meet Miley Cyrus concert (with the Jonas Brothers) last Saturday. Hmmm, I didn't expect that for a month at least. There was even some remnants of snow dusting everything in my yard, including my truck, this morning. I would have included a picture, but Dell has the camera with him in California. Too bad, it was the earliest snow storm I can recall. I'm also very glad it didn't start snowing until after Tom, Maren, and I finished our 10 mile run up and down Millcreek Canyon and on Wasatch Blvd. St. George Marathon (next Saturday) here we come!

Oh, I forgot to mention that Dell and I were able to get away overnight to the Anniversary Inn for Dell's birthday last Thursday. We had a free night's stay thanks to Worldmark by Wyndham (yes, we attended their timeshare presentation). My sister, Maren, was kind enough to stay overnight with our four kids and get three of them off to school the next morning. My sister-in-law, Tami, then babysat Troy until the afternoon for us. Their help was really appreciated. Our room was the Carriage Suite and it was very nice. We watched "The Princess Bride" on the television built into the bed. It was nice to enjoy breakfast in bed without the kids jumping on us or trying to eat our food. LOL! The evening of his birthday, the kids and I gave him a Star Wars singing birthday card. On the cover it said, "A Long, Long, Long Time Ago..." and inside it said, "YOU WERE BORN". We thought it was hilarious, but Dell faked anger and chased the kids around and kept saying, "Not Funny", hehehe! He's really feeling his age now that he's 38!Schanze Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10720714898365154494noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-267856415322000037.post-33442228296829084862007-09-25T23:13:00.000-06:002007-11-02T21:27:49.645-06:00Cake, More Cake, and The Bunny

A week ago, Savannah had to come up with a project for a book report for her sixth grade class. The first book of the year was a free choice book, so she read one called "Serpent Tide". It was a book with 391 pages (only 150 were required) and a lot of large vocabulary words. Not an easy read for an eleven-year-old, but the story was interesting and kept her attention. She decided she wanted to make a cake book report like her sister had done two years ago with the same teacher (same grade). Here is a picture of her with her cake.

Then a few days later, all of the kids wanted a chance to make and decorate a cake. Savannah and Kamber (our friend Kurt's daughter) mixed and baked the cake with Kurt's help. Then all of the kids helped decorate it and eat it. Kurt and three of his kids have been staying with us for a couple of weeks. His sons are Kyler and Kayden. Here is a picture of most of the kids decorating the cake. Savannah even helped clean up afterward (an agreement she had with her dad in order to bake the cake--what a good girl). I know, we're crazy for letting the kids make such a mess and eat so much sugar. Well, once in a while I think kids need to have fun and be kids. =)

Finally, yesterday we had a visitor. Troy and I watched a cute bunny hop around our yard and then it came right down to our back door and ate some plants within a couple of feet of us. Troy, of course, wanted to chase it. He wasn't able to because there was glass between them (luckily for the bunny). So I convinced him to just watch the bunny with me quietly until it hopped away a few minutes later. We were able to get a quick picture of him through the glass before he left.Schanze Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10720714898365154494noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-267856415322000037.post-78341375210277746102007-09-17T09:34:00.000-06:002007-11-02T21:28:16.024-06:00Bear Lake & CampingDell & I went to Bear Lake (at the top of Utah near Logan) this past weekend for a paragliding competition Dell was participating in. There were a lot of great pilots in the competition, many of whom took their stunts all the way to the water. Dell didn't want to get the brand new equipment he was flying wet, so his stunts were shorter and less risky, believe it or not. To make a long story short, Dell didn't place in the top three. But Dell did very well and had lots of fun flying anyway. And Dell & I both enjoyed some time alone without interruptions from the little ones. We had a nice room was right on the beach. We spent our time watching the flying at the beach & on video, drinking free RedBull (they sponsor a lot of paragliding events), eating out, renting a movie to watch in our room at the local store across the street (where we also got the kids Bear Lake T-shirts), and attending a barbeque with the other paragliders in the evening Saturday.

The kids had an adventure of their own. They went camping in Nana & Grampa Larsen's back yard. When Nana asked if they wanted to sleep inside or in a tent, all four of them decided that they wanted the tent. Nana even reported that they survived the entire day Saturday without getting on the computer once (an unusual thing for our kids who are SO computer savy). They had fun with Nana and Grampa, but still ran to give mom & dad hugs when they came home.

Video shot at Great Salt Lake--Summer 2007
(This video isn't from Bear Lake, but it demonstrates what an awesome pilot Dell is.)Schanze Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10720714898365154494noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-267856415322000037.post-51204952069276730292007-09-02T22:04:00.000-06:002007-11-02T21:29:01.795-06:00Totally Awesome Schanze Family Blog (Photo taken Autumn 2006)

Sunday, September 2, 2007

With the kids back in school, life has a routine again. Brooklyn is in 8th grade (middle school), Savannah in 6th, and Jordan in 1st. Savannah and Jordan ride the bus together and she is his protector and buddy. At first she wasn't so sure she wanted to be, but as the week went on she began to enjoy her roll. And Jordan is happy to have her help. Troy (he's 3) enjoys having mom all to himself during the day and loves dragging her around to do things for him. Mom is hopeful that he'll potty train soon and go to preschool a couple of days a week (so she can get a few things done without kids constantly needing something). Of course, he is her last one and so she tries to remember to enjoy all the cute things he does because he'll grow up way to fast. Dad has been helping out, too. He drives Brooklyn to school often and even changes diapers when he isn't working hard selling paragliders and flying them. Yesterday, Dell flew for 8 hours and 8 minutes (a new personal record) on a trike (paramoter with 3 wheels) and had a ball. When mom isn't busy with kids, she's off attending births as a doula (someone who provides comfort measures to a woman during labor, as well as help before and after birth). She has attended 6 births now as a doula (in the past year and a half) and has loved every minute of it. Two of those births were for friends from high school so they were even more special to her. Teresa is also training for the St George marathon with some of her family (brother- Tom, sister- Maren, and sister-in-law--Teresa). This October will be her 4th time running the marathon. Needless to say, we're all busy having a Totally Awesome time! =)
Schanze Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10720714898365154494noreply@blogger.com0
